BISHOP LAMONT: THE REFORMATION

Bishop Lamont has been in the game since he was 12 years old doing what he had to do to get put on in this game. A prodigy of the legendary Dr. Dre, Bishop Lamont is slated to be the next big artist coming out of Aftermath. He has gotten to work with the best of the best in production for his new album…With classic mix cd’s already under his belt he's ready to ride and show the industry what real hip hop is supposed to sound like…S1 recently caught up with Bishop and this is what he had to say

S1: Yeah, yeah, yeah!!! You know who this is the mother fucking man S1, Legacy Magazine, Legacy Radio, Legacymag.net and listen man, you know how we get down…I got my boy Lamont Bishop from the west coast, you know who he is signed to, you know what he’s getting ready to drop but I’m gonna let the man tell it…What’s up big dawg?

BL: Man just happy to be, we building and that’s what it’s about…

S1: Aiight that’s definitely wassup! For the knuckleheads that have their head under a rock and haven’t been able to pay attention of what’s poppin off and what’s the new movement on the west coast on Aftermath…Just give them a tid bit as to who you are, about where you coming from and what you bringin with you baby?

BL: I mean I’m Bishop Lamont out of Carson California representin the west coast, reppin for the east coast and all points in between, just reppin for real hip hop…We just trying to set a new precedent and take it to a new level…Just trying to bring back the original mother fucking elements of hip hop as well as from this generation how we see it, how we growing up in it and putting our 2 cents in it and taking to a fresh level again…Cause right now it’s bullshit!! We trying to get rid of them bullshit man…

S1: Alright that’s definitely wassup!!! Yo aye I agree with you on that, you know what I’m saying and right now there is a lot riding on you but I think your gonna make it happen there’s definitely no doubt…But listen man, last year you had a pretty interesting year, you been having a couple of interesting years, I mean we can far back to when you got together with Dre and Aftermath but last year was interesting because you dropped 3 classic mix cd’s in 1 year, some people can’t even drop 1 classic mix cd in one year you feel me? So you’ve been on the grind is where I’m getting at, your working hard, your making it happen, talk to us, your working with a lot of producers…What’s good baby? Catz want to know what’s going down…

BL: I mean shit, bottom-line it’s just getting with all the mother fuckers you growing up and always dreamed of working with na meen be it Lord Finesse, or Premo, or Buckwild, or Clark Kent, or Pete Rock, you know what I’m saying, Dilla rest in peace, Malib, Quick, Battlecat…I mean you name a whose whose of classic niggas, classic architects you know what I’m sayin, It’s a lot of niggas I had a blessing to sit with and build with and have his family create phenomenal records and really be able to bring something to the table, you know what I mean, from the production side as well…It’s just been a pleasure man and you gotta reflect the blessings that you get by the work ethic that you put in so you can stay deserved of it so that’s really me I’m just in the studio or gym and when I get a chance I sleep so I can bring the freshest shit I can to the world, to the real catz that really wanna hear some real shit and been missing it and have kind of lost they faith in this art form and lost they faith in the radio or even checking for albums right now…That’s why I ride so hard, you know what I mean…

S1: Alright that’s definitely wassup…”The Reformation” is the album that’s going to be dropping this year, obvisously you got Dr. Dre producing that shit, you got a lot of other ill niggas producing on it, The Rza, Pete Rock, Premier…How is that project coming along? How is it marinating? Talk to us bro mother fuckers wanna know…

BL: LOL…I seen Rza a couple of weeks ago man, I have some shameless promotion for Rza man he got the craziest MPC’s coming out man, he got these new drum machines man with all the elements…I just want to shout out Rza for the love you know what I’m sayin and just getting down to do some shit for the album but ya’ll definitely need to be checking for those MPC’s it’s crazy what he got going man…But just being able to rock with these catz man and the stuff that we making, cause right now we are in the middle of “Detox” so I’m doing Detox and my album at the same time man and I’m working my ass off like never before!!! It’s like dream to a part of all of this!!!

S1: Any words about what Dre has coming with the Detox project? I mean if you’re even allowed to talk about it…

BL: Yeah it’s not much that we can speak cause he wants the shit to be major but what I can say is that dude is going crazy with the beats, the beats is just fucking ridiculous you know what I mean, it’s been a long time since you heard shit bang like this, since last he did it on 50’s 1st album but really what he is doing right here is going to set a new standard for production and mixing and just concepts and how he putting records together and just hearing him brand new all over again…Dre just totally re-created himself again, it’s still the gangsta shit it’s still Dre…There is a lot of energy coming from him like he a new artist man, it’s really dope!!! Even the turntables is back out, he doing that DJ Dr. Dre shit too…

S1: That’s definitely wassup…Why don’t you give us a little background on how you got into the game?

BL: I’ll give you the short version because that’s such a long ass story!! I was in the streets doing the mixtapes on a street team I was an intern at Interscope …Every hole in the wall I was there performing, I was even doing stunt work on videos and stunt safety on videos, I was a gopher you know what I mean, so I learned the ins and outs of the business on every angle, you know what I’m sayin…It’s been a long road but at the same time but understanding that you got to be a good listener man, everybody wanna talk that they the best this and that, the best mother fucker out there is the mother fucker that pays attention, that listens, when you an excellent listener you learn so much more man…When you a student of the craft and you watch the game from all angles and you have to just as great a businessman as you are an artist…That’s what put me in the position that I’m in and make sure that the blessing you receive you give to others na meen…

S1: That’s wassup…Any words of advice; I know that you touched on a lot but any words for catz coming into the game?

BL: First and foremost God gotta be there it don’t matter how you livin in the streets niggas know what it is, you know what I’m sayin and God keeps you safe when the bullets is flyin but God gotta come first and family gotta come first too…Loyalty has got to be there niggas can’t lose themselves to this fake ass shit become comfortable in your skin, keep real niggas around you, get it thorough and don’t sell out for nothing man, the only thing you wanna sell out is in sales na meen…Come in as a shrewd businessman and nigga do yo shit to the thoroughest, make sure your rhymes and beats are on point and your spirit on point, you know what I’m saying…

S1; Aiight that’s definitely real talk from Lamont Bishop, it’s been a pleasure dawg I wish you nothing but the best and you the next big dawg up…

BL: Thank you man I appreciate the interview man…Peace…
