Championship fight that won him the Belt
Frank Trigg (formerly of Ultimate Fighting Championships and Pride Fighting Championships) has been ushering in what many have called the Hottest Sport of the 21 Century. Ultimate Fighting has taken over where boxing left off and is quickly becoming the sport of choice for both the rich and famous as well as the blue collar middle class. Frank had had over a thousand college fights before he had his first "Official Pro Fight" for $100 bucks. Since then, Frank has knocked cats silly all over the world.
Frank is currently hosting Pride FC for Fox Sports Network and has recently become the ICON Sport 185-Pound Champion. Come chill with us as we kick it with a guy who has no problem fighting you for his lunch money...
S1: Yeah, yeah, yeah!!! What’s going on my peoples? You know who this is…This is S1 the mutha fucking man Legacy Magazine, Legacy Radio, Legacymag.net…And today listen man I’m going to throw you a little curve ball, you know how we do it here at Legacy I got a, he may not come from the hip hop community but I’m sure he enjoys a lot of our music and a lot of people out there know exactly who I’m gonna put on the front paper right now but I got my boy Frank Trigg you know what I’m sayin…He does a lot of fighting for the UFC and for the Pride Championships…How you doing today Frank what’s up with you baby?
FT: Hey you can’t ever complain when your sitting in Las Vegas looking at the strip you know it’s always a good day when you’re here…
S1: Alright that’s definitely what’s up…I’ve been following your career I got a lot of questions to ask you know what I’m saying…Why don’t we just start off here man, why don’t you put us onto how you got involved in martial arts? How you got involved in the UFC and Pride Championships and what is it that makes a man like you tick? Fighting is no easy job by any stretch of the imagination I want to throw that out there…
FT: Well for me fighting is easy…I did kung fu as a kid and watched kung theater…I’m the middle of 6 boys so you don’t have a choice but to learn how to fight…So did kung fu, we moved and I got into swimming and wrestling and wrestling became my sport…So I wrestled all thru college I was on the US National Team for 5 years tried out for 2 Olympic Games and in 1997 my Judo coach, I take a little judo to help with my wrestling, he was like you want to couple of hundred bucks to beat up a guy up I was like sure how much money does he owe ya? And it ended up being a fight down in Texas so we drove down to Texas from Oklahoma City and did a bunch of scrapping and I whooped this kid up and that the start of my career…Martial arts just came because I had to get better at fighting really the kung fu I took was minor as 6 or 7 year old kid what are you really learning? And it took me awhile to put it all together between the judo, the wrestling and the jujitsu to really learn how to fight…
S1: Okay, okay that’s definitely what’s up…How did you get involved in the UFC and Pride? Break that down for us baby…
FT: Well basically what happened was pride came first…Pride has always been really engaged with non traditional fighters they always take a risk to see how they would be like as a fighter…Since I was more of a wrestler then boxer I went to the UFC for a few years and now I work with the broadcast team for all the pride fights on Fox…So I’ve been blessed to call the best fights in the world…
S1: Listen quick question, couple of days ago some of our readers may have already seen it but the Tito and Shamrock 3rd fight installment just came thru, Tito polished him pretty bad and Shamrock actually retired…Did you have the pleasure of seeing that and if so had did that whole experience make you feel you know watching one of the main guys of the UFC going out like that not necessarily on top kind of like passing the torch?
FT: Well I wish he keeps fighting cause I might be out of a job on the commentating side because Ken is real good. He hasn’t suffered much damage in his career he is not punch drunk or anything like that.
S1: Okay that’s definitely what’s up…Listen Frank Trigg it’s been a pleasure, I enjoy watching all of your fights, I enjoy watching you commentate…You guys do a fantastic job…Any last words of advice that you want to throw out there?
FT: Well I tell you what as a young fighter I got my own clothing line out there its called Triggonomics and you can find it on my website FrankTrigg.com or triggonomics.com…The reason why I mention the clothing line is because I have some shirts that (I) sponsors some fighters with (come check us), (But) some low level fighters with records like 2-0, 3-0 you know guys that are just getting into the game a little bit, they see the reality show and they see the records of those guys 7-2, 7-3 and they are on the rise and shit, all of sudden they get these multi-million dollar contracts and making all this money and what not, but the reality of it is those guys will never do anything…You got to put your time in this thing look at Chuck Lidell, Silva, Matt Hughes, Crowcrop these guys all have over 30 matches those guys make the real money…They make the real money because they are great and had other fighting careers before this one…I mean I’ve had over 1500 wrestling matches before 2000…This is not a career where you going to make a lot of money unless you are like those guys and those are far and few…Most of us in this sport make enough to make a living that’s it...
