MC Lyte
The Interview

MC Lyte's career has spanned 3 decades in which she has represented the pinnacle of lyrical skills amongst mc's, especially women. Still sounding and looking sharper then ever MC Lyte politic'd with us about her new group Almost September and other things that the hip hop legend has been up to, this is what she had to say:

Migs: What's good MC Lyte?

MC Lyte: Everything is great! Excited about the new group Almost September

Migs: It's good to see a positive sister in the game. Why has it been so hard for female rappers to be positive role models lately?

MC Lyte: It's hard because women aren't being supported in terms of consumers. Everyone needs to buy female Hip Hop so the powers that be can see we too are important.

MIgs: What are some of your own struggles being a positive female rapper?

MC Lyte: Not getting the correct billing on shows and not getting equal pay.

Migs: What projects are you involved with or will be working on in the future?

MC Lyte: I am now part of a group called "Almost September" and we are currently working on the new project. The new single has be leaked ahead of time and it's called "Beautiful"

Migs: What can we expect from the L-Y-T-E?

MC Lyte: Right now, my focus is the group and delivering music that feels good.

Migs: Just a little background question…How did you get started in the rap game?

MC Lyte: I started as an MC when I was in school. Listening to Salt N Pepa and Run DMC and all the other gave me inspiration.

Migs: How do you feel about the direction hip hop has gone overall?

MC Lyte: I think the business aspect is great, but it just needs balance. We as hip hop lovers need to support the Hip Hop we really think needs being highlighted. Challenge yourself to get on itunes and buy some unknown independent music.

Migs: When you are working on a song in the studio how do you approach writing?, Do you freestyle or do you just write?

MC Lyte: I do write when I hit the Studio. I write with a purpose so I never freestyle in the studio. I just listen to the music and it speaks to me.

Migs: What advice can you give young people who are currently aspiring to become the next big star?

MC Lyte: Stay true to your craft and let your goal be about the music. Wok hard and get rid of folks that don't believe in you.
