S-1:I got Nottz on the phone, a hard hard man to catch up with but we finally did it…Nottz I know that you have a lot of production credits under your belt G-Unit, Busta Ryhmes, Exhibit….As a matter of fact, from what I’ve read the encounter that you had with Busta Rhymes gave you a little bit of luck breaking into the industry. How did that come about, break that down for us yo…
Nottz: My man DV Alias Khrist who was down with Smooth Da Hustla and Trigga Da Gambler and I started doing joints for him and Lord Have Mercy they was real tight so they did a joint on Lyricst Lounge Vol 1, so I did that and Busta was supposed to get on the song and for whatever reason he ain’t get on the song and everything led from there Busta Bus was like man I need you on my shit and there it is…..
S-1:You even got some movie credits to your body of work…talk to me about that…..
Nottz: I did the joint of Krumbsnatcher and M.O.P. on the Training Day Soundtrack, I did a joint on Thicker Than Blood Fat Joe’s shit, Black Mask the Jet Li joint, You Got Served and Never Die Alone you know that DMX joint….
S-1: How long have you been producing?
Nottz: Shoot about 13, 14 years now
S-1: So you definitely put in your time, you definitely a vet…
S-1: The name Nottz how did you come up with the name Nottz?
Nottz: My grandma man, she passed away man, before she did…you know…I used to have notty ass hair man…She used to be like you need to comb that notty stuff…I was like alright…..But she was always calling me Nottz, Nottz, Nottz…So I justed used….
S-1: That’s a phat name dawg, especially after you told me how you got it…
Nottz: No doubt thank you…
S-1: Lets get into some of the production work you’ve done for your catz DMP…..Talk to us about DMP…I know they got a 12 inch out “So High”, “Hear me Knockin”, “OOHH”…I know their getting a lotta play in Norfolk, New York and Cambridge…They’ve even been getting play down here in Boca Raton…Wassup with them ?
Nottz: You know man, everyone stays busy man….We stay working…Everybody got different minds…That’s the hot shit about it everybody’s different on the joint…We feed off each other…We don’t just make rap records we make songs…We got songs everyone can relate to…We got the bitches, the ho’s , the woman joints…the conscious joints…the club shit…we gotta a lot shit that everybody can fuck with…Try to make songs, not just rap songs nigga just spittin over a beat, that shits boring…
S:1 If there was anything you would tell up in coming producers…What would you hit em over the head with?
Nottz: Its like I tell everybody…Read books man….You gotta read about these motherfuckers…Everybody’s tryin to fuck you man….That’s the bullshit…You gotta play the game the same way everybody else play it man….Stay fresh man, don’t keep doin the same…You gotta change with the times, fuck all that…You gotta change with the times baby….
