S1:This is S1 Legacymag.net Legacy Magazine/Legacy Radio and tonight, I feel pretty special tonight, I’m interviewing someone that I had been following for along time in the hip hop industry. I got my man Tame One. A lot of y’all might know him from the artifacts, that was back in the day, right now he’s doin his solo thing. Whats goin on my nigga
Tame: Maintaining, maintaining,
S1: How ya feelin today baby
Tame: Man I’m a lil’ under the weather, but thas a small thing, I’m aight
S1: Alright, alright, definitely your roughin it out doin what you gotta do, we appreciate you takin the time to do the interview, especially with you feelin under the weather. That’s not an easy task, there’s a lot of things we have out on the plate a lot of things we want to talk about your new album. OG Bobby Johns???? We definitely wanna touch on that. But lets take it back for a quick minute, lets go back about ten years or so, talkin about Brick City, turning around hangin out with Erik Sermon and Redman, droppin your first Artifacts joint. Let’s reminisce on that for a minute, how was that experience dawg?
Tame: It was great man, it was like seein all my hopes and dreams come to light. That was a fat time in hip hop, Biggie was out, Black Moon was out, Wu-Tang was out, that was a real nice time in hip hop
S1: No doubt, no doubt that was a very special time, that was the golden era of hip hop and the funny thing about that is that your first two joints… that and back then they are literally hip hop classics, we never really shot out the websites, but if you go to Undergroundhiphop.com both of those albums are sold out. Those two are classics. How was it with artifacts, working together and that special chemistry that you guys had. Was’ up with that, talk to us yo.
Tame: It’s dead it’s gone- it’s just stomped on and been violated. Too much trust has been lost in the process.
S1: Okay, okay, is it a situation that was between you and ?????, or was it just the record label that went bad and you guys wanted to go and do your own thing?
Tame: It was a trickle down effect. Once the record label and they business got shady then it just trickled down into personal relationships. And it affected the group like that.
S1: No doubt that’s the way it normally happens, and that’s definitely a shame. But on the flip side to that, you released two albums on your own since then.
Tame: Yes sir
S1: Okay let’s go on to your first joint on the solo tip
Tame: When Rappers Attack
S1: Yes, we’ve actually played a couple of those tracks on our radio show, definitely will give you play again we’ve been following you for a some time. How did it feel for you to do it all on your own dawg
Tame: It was a release man. It was long overdue, you see I was Tame One before The Artifacts even kicked off. It just felt like everything was coming full circle.
S1: This is what it should’ve been in the first place type shit
Tame: Basically, but I can’t front on nothing that I went through with The Artifacts, I can’t take nuttin away from those experiences but as far as having your own and doin the solo thing that I set out to do. Yeah that was a good feeling
S1: OG Bobby Johnson…The first question obvious to me maybe not to others is- thas’ a tight ass name, whas’ the deal with the name on the album talk to us bro?
Tame: I snatched it from the character from The South Central movie.
S1: Okay, okay thas what we figured. Any particular reason why?
Tame: Basically coz the character he went through his own personal hell, he was smoking shroom sticks and all that shit, but he did a 360 he cleaned his life up did what he had to do and handled all his responsibilities. And he didn’t die in the end, that was like a hood classic to me.
S1: What can we expect, what kind of heat rocks are you be throwin our way with the new album, talk to us….
Tame: I got my boys From Dusk Till Dawn on it, another group from out of Jersey, some up and coming talent from outta the Bricks. No, no, no not even the Bricks, I can’t even say they Brick City, they from outta Jersey. We just keeping it Jersey. I got ???Balls from the weathermen crew, I got ???? from the weathermen crew he did a joint on there for me, I got his partner Metro from ?????, I got a PPP dedication to Redman on there.
Tame: Pistol Packin Possee’s for y’all who don’t know
Tame: I did his version of Roc-a-fella over and called it Mock-a-fella. I got my man DJ Porno, from the boonsquad I got two joints from him on the album, I got my other dawg Geo from the boonsquad my personal crew on the album
So basically you have a lot of control over this particular project it sounds like your puttin all your people where you want them to be at and shit
I mean the money wasn’t right, I’m not gonna lie to the press. People look me out so I look them out
I’m feelin that, thas the way it should be hip hop was in the first place
Basically, before the glitz and glamorous hype shit kicked off.
S1: Whats the drop date? Talk to us about the drop date
Tame: It’s out right now, supposedly it had dropped on the 8th , but a lot of the spots got it and it won’t be out until the22nd, but it’s out now
S1: Okay, coz I heard there was a discrepancy with the date. But I didn’t know it actually dropped on the 8th. Where can people look for the album where can they pick it up? Is there a website?
Tame: Fattbeats should have it, it’s in the chain stores- Like the FYE’s and Coconuts. And it’s listed on my site, you could pick it up somewhere, you can get the address off my site Tame-one.com as well.
S1: Thas Tame-One.com. Ay man I heard a lil’ coughin we’ll rap it up in a minute. Anything that you would want to tell your fans or people that are just listening or reading this interview right now, any juicy lil’ tid bits of knowledge, you know whatever you want to say
Tame: I’m keeping it as simple as possible, I’m not on no soap bos, I’m not preachin to nobody, I’m just doin what I like do, I’m just being creative, I’m just expressin myself, I’m just tryin to show progress from the artifact days. I’m not tryin to capitalize off graffiti or rape the culture of hip hop. I’m just tryin to express myself and the OG Bobby Johnson album is just an extension of that.
S1: The only thing that I can say from Legacy’s perspective, if your gonna deliver material like the last several albums that you have been involved with, then we’re gonna have a pretty good project on our hands. Thas’ what wegotta say here from Legacy.
FREESTYLE TIME
