Omniscient Music Para Mi Gente

Omniscient: Music Para Mi Gente
This native Miami rapper is starting to make serious noise on the underground Miami scene as well as overseas in Europe and Japan. Omniscient or Om for short is part of a new Miami hip hop scene that is raising the bar lyrically for all the other established heads coming out of Miami. With songs about social consciousness and revolution Omniscient id bringing issues to the forefront that people are scared to talk about or too ignorant to talk about. Our new correspondent and Co-host of Legacy Life the beautiful Vivi recently caught up with Om in South Beach and this is what he had to say:<
Vivi: What’s good? So you are from Miami and right now Miami’s underground scene is bubbling, so tell us a little something about yourself…
Om: Well my name is Omniscient, 305 Miami born the one and only…Well what can I say about myself…Well I’ve been writing since I was 11, 12 and didn’t know what I was writing about or I knew what I was writing about but I wasn’t really writing music with bars…It wasn’t until like 2001 when I started freestyling, battles and backyard boogies that I really started to take this seriously with my crew Flow Official, shout out to M-O…In 03 we dropped our 1st album “That’s How We Build” an EP it did well, vinyl, top 30 rap attack, you know…In 04 we dropped “Awareness” and in 05 I got sick started fucking with that cancer shit and it took away a year and a half out of the career but I came back stronger…In 04 I did a tour in Europe and it opened up doors in Europe in Germany, Spain and France, in England and that’s what it’s been man…It’s been a lot of projects happening, I’m currently working on the Flow Official album which is the original crew and I’m working on the “Arrowax” album which is already done and it’s getting ready to get pressed up and that’s with my man Seven Star, and that’s with Botanica De Jibaro which is a Miami local based label pa la gente, talking about situations going on in society and Latin America…Oh I’m currently working on a project with Strand and Tres out of Spain and that’s basically getting rapped up…

Vivi: So we all know that in music it’s about putting out a message…Most songs are about sex, drugs, fighting or where you’re from or how you feel about anything and that’s the beauty about music, it’s about expressing how you feel…So what is it that you express? What is it that you feel? What’s good?
Om: I mean if I have to put it in one word it would be revolucion…Now we live in Miami so that word might be like yo the Cuban revolution…No peoples!!! Revolution means change and if I’m talking about revolution I talking about change in your mind, change in your music, change in your life, change in your ways and that’s what revolution means to me…That’s what my music is, my music is about revolution because I’m bringing a change, a different swagger, that new oxygen to your lungs!!! A lot of people know me for speaking and focusing on our government. I focus on our government because I live here so why focus on everybody else’s government and that’s what people do here in Miami, you know what I’m saying…But that’s not 100% what my music is, my music is diverse, my culture is diverse I live in Miami where there is mad different cultures I attract that and I flip it and reverse it and then I bring it back when I freestyle so you can’t say that this dude is a conscious rap dude because like I said before everybody is conscious…

Om: ...I mean conscious music is music that you doing at that moment but yeah we do hit points that are a little different, a little stronger but we’re adults we not 16 years old who got pre-fabricated since the age of 14 and now you coming out doing your little ha, ha dance and talking about nothing because you not even writing your music…This is coming from the heart and people are feeling it, my city is feeling it, Japan is feeling, Europe is feeling it, Latin America is feeling it and that’s what it is…My music is a force of nature, my music is something that will make you think and I think that if something makes you spark a conversation the that’s the most important thing that can happen because conversation will bring stuff to life that might be uncomfortable but if you don’t conversate it ain’t nothing happening…That’s what I do I conversate on the mic, Iron Mike on the mic nigga!!!

Vivi: So we already know what you do and what you’re about, your history…So what’s in it for the future?
Om: I mean the future is wide open you know…I’m independent right now, I like being independent and building a fan base…As I mentioned some of the projects that I got coming plus a couple of mixtapes that I’m going to drop…Like I said I got the Arawak ablum dropping in Japan and in Europe and soon it will be available worldwide on the net…So I think the 4th quarter of 08 is going to be crazy and the first quarter of 09 but just look out and hit me up on Myspace.com/omniscient, it’s a ten letter word not that hard to spell!!!
