Rock The Bells Miami

ROCK THE BELLS: HIP HOP LIVES IN MIAMI

By Migs

Let me start off by saying that hip hop is alive and kicking Miami man. Me and S1 had the honor of going to cover the Rock the Bells concert in Miami and it was nothing short of an amazing experience with some of the elite veterans in the game. Despite it being damn near 100 degrees the joint was packed (a lot of females I might add). The crowd was hot and sweaty but still had mad energy and love to give to the artists of this historic tour. There was plenty of beer, food and that other funky smelling stuff (weed) permeating the humid downtown Miami air.

The local acts that came out first looked like they were going to shrivel up and die from heat exhaustion. Fresh Air Fund from Ft. Lauderdale came out first and did a pretty live set they are on the come up down here. Then Mayday came out and did their live set they were aiight.

Then the real hardcore mother fuckers came out on stage like Jedi Mind Tricks and Immortal Technique and laced the crowd with their anti-government and political lyrics that spun the crowd into a frenzy.

Immortal Technique is on his way to becoming a the strong voice of a generation that is lost in a sea and frustration as many of them are going overseas to die in this illegal war and defend this governments corrupt foreign policies. Tech touches on all that shit and then some.

Then Pharaoh Monch came out with his live band and ripped it, despite technical difficulties.

Next Talib, Mos Def and special guest Common came out and showed the hip hop nation how it is done, how to rock the mic and the stage at the same time. Their energy despite the heat spilled over into the crowd and the show went into full gear. Common murdered the stage when he did his new joint “The People” and Mos Def captivated the crowd with his solo set that was full of classics.

By this time the crowd was ready to receive the rap God Nas who came out on stage by himself with no crew just a DJ and absolutely killed the stage with his legendary flow.

His catalog is so large that he couldn’t do all of his hits because there wasn’t enough time but he still managed to do make the crowd go crazy when he was on stage. He even said that he was so hyped by the crowd and the other performers that he stated that hip hop lives and is not dead at all.

Then Wu Tang came out and sent the crowd absolutely insane when the came out and did “Wu Tang Clan Ain’t Nothing to Fuck With”. All the original members were present except obviously ODB but his son was out on stage with the Wu and even grabbed the mic and joined in the tribute they did to ODB which really touched the crowd. I saw grown ass men crying when they announced that ODB’s son was on stage with them.

Method Man was the highlight of their set when he jumped into the crowd and surfed all the way to the lawn set while he was performing “Method Man” but when he surfed back he got dropped by the crowd and hit the ground but got right back up and jumped back on stage without missing a beat…

Overall I felt privileged to be apart of this incredible hip hop experience and by far the best hip hop show I have ever been to!!! Go check it out when they come thru your town!!!! Peace- Migs
