Ron Browz: Harlem's Homegrown

Ron Browz is going down in history as one of the greatest producers of his era producing joints like Big L's "Ebonics" and the legendary Nas joint "Ether". Hailing from Uptown Harlem Ron Browz has etched his name in Harlem folklore as a nigga off the block to producing platinum records. S1 recently caught up with him and this is what he had to say:

S1: Yeah, yeah, yeah what's going on my peoples. You know who this is.S1 the mutha fuckin man.Legacy Magazine, Legacy Radio, Legacymag.net.You know we do alotta work.Alotta grindin tryin to identify new talent , up-in-coming talent. And today I believe I got a future legend on my hands.Give it up to Ron Browz. What's up my nigga how you feelin today?

Ron Browz: Whats going on man.I'm chillin.I can't complain.

S1: Alright, alright. You definitely been getting busy.I wanna get into your bio and your body of work. But before anything, I wanna put it down and let everybody to know that you are a Harlemnite.Let them know baby!!! Whats going on in Harlem?

RB: Harlem man is a beautiful vibe man. They re-building man and it's become a beautiful place to go.Places to eat.Beautiful girls..We got alotta producers inspiring rappin things is everything man.

S1: That's what I'm getting to, there are a lot of niggas running around up there catchin some paper man and I'm glad to see that your joining the crew yo!!!

RB: Yeah.Hard work, hard work though.

S1: No doubt, no doubt and everything that your getting now it's for all the hard work that you put in.Let go and start with that. One of the first projects that you started off with is Big L's "Ebonics".Talk to us about that.Obviously Big L was a legend in his own right. They took him away from us at a young age.Talk to us about that dawg.

RB: I'm from Harlem and Big L was from Harlem. It was just a matter of time of meetin him.I was just Chillin outside one day and he was walking by looking for something.Looking for something else na meen.I just happen to see him and me and my mans was like yo I got some beats, you wanna hear em? He like cool was sup.Let's do it, let me hear something. He came upstairs, he came up to my mom's crib and I let him hear some joints.I let him hear like 2 beats one of them was Ebonics and the other was his side b was Size Him Up.And he came back the next day, we did it in the crib on tape. Then the next week we went to D&D Studios and recorded it.It was a classic.Ebonics.

S1: No doubt.Man you see, if you wouldn't have told me that I wouldn't have believe it know what I'm sayin. But just like that nigga bump into each other downstairs up to the crib and boom you got a classic. That shit is tight work right there dawg.

RB: Yeah

S1: Talkin about classics man.You been putting in work since like what 99' 2000'.Since when have you been grindin yo?

RB: Yeah like 98', 99'.

S1: Alright, alright.

RB: That when I met Big L I'm figuring.Yeah.

S1: Now I definitely gotta give you props for this cause I pretty much think that you and the nigga I'm gonna talk about pretty much made history with this joint, but you and Nas put down that Ether joint man and that Ether joint til this day arguably you can say is the only track that has ever assisted in putting jay-Z in check. You know what I'm sayin. You hold half of that title.Talk to us about that.Wassup with that beat?

RB: Yo that beat like, like. After Big L passed away I'm like yo.I took it as a time to like either to keep going or stop like yo kinda messed me up for a minute like yo should I do this? I took it as a sign to keep going. So I just constantly stayed in the crib breakin off beats and that beat I think I had made it at late night messin around with the string sounds on the keyboard and every time I would play for somebody they would be like that track is crazy.I'm gonna tell ya'll a story, one of the A&R's for Roca-Fella sat in my house and listened to that beat and slept on it.And God works in mysterious ways you know my what became my manager, my manager Fuzz was working for Def Jam at the time and he had a cool relationship with Nas travel agent, so she hooked us up with his A&R, he heard the beat .That was my first beat cd.Ether was my first beat cd.I was used to putting beats on tapes and all that. And he heard it, it was a word the word was yo Nas picked it but I'm like.I used to be on the block still like he ain't pick that he ain't gonna do none of that. Then I got the call one day that, Nas called to come down to the mixdown and hear the joint, and when I heard it was like breath taking like yo this is crazy and started calling everybody on the phone and Nas was like I'm gonna get em with this.He was calm like this is it, this is da bomb right here.Shook Jay up a little.
