The Seven Star Interview

S1 & Seven Star

Seven Star: Speaking the Universal Language

Seven Star is one of those rare artists that comes along and actually have something of substance to say in his rhymes. He has a mission when he picks up that mic and that is to educate and create a better world. Born in New York and raised in Puerto Rico and now residing in Florida his path was different from most Mc’s that hail from the Big Apple. S1 recently caught up with the god and this is what he had to say:

S1: Yeah, yeah yeah…Whats going my peoples, my peoples!!! You know who this is!! This is S1 da muthafuckin man!! Legacy Magazine, Legacy Radio, Legacymag.net and today man I got one of the brightest stars down here in Miami with me, I got my man Seven Star!! Whats poppin baby?

SS: Right on to the real and death to the fakers man…Chillin man how you doing?

S1: Good man…I’m doing great man…I’ve been chasing you for a hot minute…I’m about to put all of ya’ll catz onto my man Seven Star this cat is really holding the heat down here in Miami…making it happen…But lets just take it back for a quick minute, correct me if I’m wrong but born in the Bronx, grew up in Puerto Rico, came back to Miami am I far off is that the way it happened?

SS: Damn son you did your research!!!

S1: Little bit of digging, little bit of digging…But put us on baby, tell us who you are? How you got here? And the name Seven Star you definitely gotta break that down for us…

SS: Actually I was born in Manhattan but my family lived in the Bronx, right around the areas of Grand Concourse and Fordham Rd…Then around 5 years old I went to Santurce Puerto Rico which is next to San Juan the capital…So I lived there and pretty much raised there, that’s where I got into hip hop to begin with…Then I came here…But Seven Star the name…Well back in the days in Puerto Rico the mc’s that inspired me were Puerto Rican mc’s like Rueben DJ you had Mysonne and a few other kids that we knew around the way but I wasn’t really hip to any mc’s over here and when I came over here with my mom dukes and she started going to an evangelist church…So I started going with her and I started meeting kids at the youth group, and before in Puerto Rico I used to call myself J DJ even though I wasn’t a DJ I kind of took after Rueben DJ so I had that name to begin with, so I started going to church and kind of learning a little more about God…Seven was just God’s number, the number that was most popular in the bible…Seven trumpets, seven seals, the seven days it took him to create the world, seven arch angels that sort of thing…So I just took that and I no longer go to church I kind of like took whatever I can have and whatever I got from that…The only way to understand who God really is, is to figure out all the religions and understand them all and so I’m kind of on that vibe…So the Star came after that being that I see God not as a man but as the universe itself, so I figured Seven Star and put them together you know God is a star, star is the universe you know whatever I just kind of put them together…that’s the best way I could describe that I guess…

S1: Alright that definitely deep…Now your currently working with Counterflow…Why don’t you just go ahead and tell us who you working with or what label your on?

SS: I did put out my 1st album and about 4 singles with Counterflow, 1st album was called “My Mother and Father Were Astronauts”…I got a single with them called “John Doe Lamarcian” and I also have another single that just came out not too long ago called “The Philosophy Of Letting Go”…As for now, right now I’m not working with Counterflow, Counterflow is doing a few other things right now, we’re both headed in different directions…Right now I’m getting down with my boy La Mano Fria and Botanica del Jibaro Records which is a conglomerate of BBC which Beta Bodega Coalition…My second album is coming out in November and my 1st single is out right now on Botanica and it’s called “ Trojan Horse” it came out September 11th…The album is called “Alternate Invention” and it comes out Nov. 18th if I’m correct…In November I’m doing a little tour in Europe and December I’m going out to Japan…That’s pretty much where I’m getting a lot of love Japan and Europe…

S1:  Now you gotta break down how it is your flow comes it’s on some real shit, cause I saw you perform at a Jeru Da Damaja show and out of all the groups that performed I thought you killed it and really put on a good performance…

SS: I just think that no matter what you do in life you gotta do right by everyone…I don’t work like a lot of these artists on the radio work…It’s just temporal they look for temporal satisfaction they just want the material thing, I can’t be that way, I wasn’t raised that way, I feel differently towards the entire world…I don’t feel like I’m an individual, I feel like I’m apart of a greater thing a collective conscious…I feel like I gotta do right by the world, I gotta make some sort of change and if it’s through hip hop then fine, that’s what I love…I’ve always been interested in other things like I’d love to be a comedian. Some comedians are like prophets man you got George Carlin, you got Steven Wright you know…I just think if your going to do something with your art you might as well actually change the world for the better, make people understand the world around them a little better and I guess that’s the best way I can describe how I do it…But yeah man that’s me in a nutshell…

S1: So are you doing anything in the states that we should be looking out for? Where can catz go and listen and really understand what I’m talking about and your rapping about?

SS: Well if any of you catz out there listening right now you can go to www.botanicadeljibaro.com and of course MySpace at www.myspace.com/mcsevenstar...Just look out for MC SevenStar.com it should be coming out early 2007…

S1: That’s definitely wassup Seven Star we appreciate your time your doing the right thing your music is awesome and we here at Legacy support you and got your back aiight!

SS: I got your back man thank you for doing this for me man, helping my cause and helping promote my stuff man…Legacy forever!!
