The Sgt. Over Interview

Sgt. Over: Militant Shit

The Hostile Takeover

This is a warning, you are about to experience a lyrical takeover. Sgt. Over is taking command of the rap game with his solo album called The Hostile Takeover. If you like raw rhymes about real life and hip-hop with edgy beats check out www.sgtover.com to hear some tracks or cop the CD. Last I checked Sgt. was already workin on the next album…..check what the artist had to say:

P8: What is your ultimate goal towards contributing to the Hip-Hop community?

Sgt. Over: I want to be one of those artists that up and comers twenty to a thousand years from now can look back on my catalogue of music and learn something from it or take away something from it or be inspired by it. I don’t want to be here today and gone tomorrow.

P8: Explain your rap style.

Sgt. Over: My rap style is life. My words are just a reflection of what I see everyday.

P8: Who was your biggest influence in rap while you were growing up?

Sgt. Over: Cats like Biz Markie, of course Run DMC, KRS, niggaz like 3rd Bass, Tribe, Leaders of the New School, all that crazy shit. That’s when Hip-Hop was madd fun, that’s when everything was underground.

P8: What artists do you enjoy listening to today?

Sgt. Over: Aesop Rock, and pretty much the whole Def Jux crew, everybody off of Eastern Conference, Jedi Mind Tricks, Ill Bill, Last Emperor, Planet Asia, Louis Logic, of course all my niggaz from Break North, A-lots, Prophet8 and I could go on for days…..

P8: Aight good looking out. What do you think is the biggest problem with the rap game today?

Sgt. Over: The problem is obvious. You got all these cats trying to fit the mold of this hood-rich, 24-7 flossin nigga and not enough people just trying to be themselves or at the very least something genuine.

P8: What do you think are some possible solutions?

Sgt. Over: Log on to www.sgtover.com and listen to the Sgt. Over CD.

P8: What is your fondest memory in your past experience as an artist?

Sgt. Over: I would say it was my second time performing because the first time I performed I was at this club and I fucked up my song. I spit my second verse first and my first verse second and got off the third verse. When I found out I was performing there again I made sure I recorded some new blazin shit and went back and tore that bitch down!

P8: What inspired you to get in the game?

Sgt. Over: Writin was just a part of me and Hip-Hop was my favorite form of music at the time so naturally it progressed and became the focal point of my life. P8: Name some places you’ve performed at:

Sgt. Over: all over Jersey, all 5 boroughs of NYC, Miami and I’m on my way to Japan next.

P8: Is there anything you want to say to your fans and the readers of this article?

Sgt. Over: To my fans and the people that support, good lookin, its much appreciated, keep coppin them CD’s and I’ma keep the fire comin!
