S1 & Somaya Reece
S1: Yeah yeah what’s going on my peoples you know who this is the mutha fuckin man S1, Legacy Magazine, Legacy Radio, Legacymag.net. Today I have a special guest for y’all I have my home girl Somaya Reece with me. How you feeling home girl talk to us what’s going on, ya got a lot of things going, talk to me girl….
SR: Uhh, I am doing really well today. Got a lot of really great things that just went down.
S1: There are so many different things that I wanted to touch on. You got so many aspects in your career. First things first, you are an artist, you are definitely an actress. What’s the issue that you are not a model that you just recently started modeling to help promote the other primary issues that you had at hand. Talk to us about that. Who are you and what can we expect from you? And how do you like to present yourself?
SR: I had my priorities set up from the get go. I basically born and raised in South Central LA and moved myself up outta there like the Jeffersons. Basically worked my butt off to try to get into the industry coz acting and singing was kind of my thing and my rap as well. But that pretty much was my dream to get into that, it was difficult because I didn’t have any connections. I didn’t know anyone and didn’t know who to talk to about it. I pretty much busted down the door all on my own and by trial and error and my gut feeling. So the really good thing that has come out of this after 5 years grinding I just got voted no.1 Newest Pop star in Maxim Magazine, voted in the top 15 most beautiful Latinas by People’s Choice. We have some really big things coming up in Jan. & Feb that I can’t technically announce but they will be very largely televised, and again it is revolving around my music.
S1: Let me ask you this not to cut you off, but since we are speaking about your music now and it is something that is coming up. The rumor mill has it that Game or Ludacris may be interested in signing you, both labels checking you out, maybe interested. Would you like to confirm or deny at this particular time?
SR: I can’t confirm or deny anything of who I am signing to whether it is true or not. However the rumors are happening right now. A lot of people kept on questioning, “Hey are you signing to The Game?” One of big record labels called my manager like ASAP asking if we were really signing to someone else. Rumors are circulating because we do have a lot of offers on the table. Ya know A&R’s are tight with the gossip companies and they know a lot of people. They try and get the leaks out there. I had no idea about the rumors until my fans brought it to my attention, I get like 100 emails. I had no clue. But when the phone call came in from the record people they were like Oh what’s going on? Ya know.

S1: Aight, aight, the good thing about it is ya name is definitely out there where it needs to be, in the right circles. You just gotta basically sit back and continue doing what you are doing. Everything seems to be unfolding beautifully. I have another question for you, again it’s crazy how things are happening for you in the particular week We also heard in the rumor mill that you will be having to court soon for photos that were in XXL. Explain that, we’d literally, would like to get that from you. What’s going on with that issue?
SR: Well, I can’t technically talk about it but basically in the back of XXL there are ads of girls and they are adult oriented ads. Basically one of my most popular pictures is being run in the back of those magazines. And what I do want to confirm is that I am not affiliated to any of this, in any level, never gave permission, I own the copyright to those photos. In fact those photos are of me and my family, I just happened to take that quick snap shot. Somehow that photo became real popular all over the place and somehow ended up on the back of XXL. Ya know I read and I luv XXL, it’s just a shame that this is the relationship that is happening at this moment. I am sure everything will be clarified there is a lot of disclaimers with these ads when u read it in the back. They have enough money to run it for the next few months and they’re gonna be able to come out the pocket with this, coz it’s ridiculous. I mean my mom saw it and it is just embarrassing. I work real hard to not ever be viewed that way, and for them to do that it’s this company, I don’t know what the hell they were thinking. Everyone knows that’s my photo, I get tons of private messages of how people love that photo. They knew what they were doing. They need to definitely come through with what they need to come though with. It’s embarrassing when my parents saw that. This month coming I am in a magazine Latino Future. My mom and my sister were at the news stand looking for it and my mom knows that I have been in magazines before. My sister sees it and shows my mom. It's just embarrassing. My own producers called me about this, some fans. There is no way I am gonna let anybody discredit me, I worked real heard to build my name. I don’t really doing things like that. It’s a shame.
S1: It’s definitely refreshing to see you take the initiative. Stand up for your rights and do what you gotta do.
SR: I am not going to be negative about it. To be honest with you it’s just publicity coz everyone has been hitting me up about it. Ya know obviously all the right people know who my name is and that‘s all that really matters. Good thing is that we are getting this law suit straightened out. I just want people to know that I am not part of any of this. I am just trying to get that known. Our attorneys are speaking to those magazines.
S1: This is S1 I got my home girl Somaya Reece. As far as acting is concerned, you have done a lot of acting and been in a lot of commercials. I saw you on TV several times, talk to us about your whole acting career. How that came about and I know that you are very huge in Latin America, and really internationally, talk to us about what you have done.

SR: Well, when I first started my career I was pursuing music. However it was acting that was right on the table first. A lot of people don’t know this but my film resume is shorter than my commercial resume and that’s because commercials were very fun for me at a time. So I wanted to get very serious with my theater and film and I have done so many commercials I couldn’t even count them. It’s really fun doing them. It’s amazing and to be able to book so much it takes serious dedication and talent and so many people don’t really realize that. They think that it’s very easy and it is not. Commercials are different from film cause for the big films you are going against thirty people some are starting some are not. For commercials you are going against 1000’s of people between New York and Miami. To be narrowed down to the one’s that get hired that is something to be proud of. I started from the bottom and like everyone else and I am not afraid to say it coz it’s such a great thing. I probably would not appreciate it as much had it been through a hook up. I had no speaking parts, then to a small speaking part, to a lil bit bigger and bigger until now where I am actually getting into a scene. I just did a film as well, a type of action film if you will. This film is called “The Girl with The Naked Eye” and I can’t technically talk about it.
S1: Lets talk about the music that you putting out right now…You do have a couple of singles out “Ooh Baby Baby” “Girls Night”…Talk to us I know that you enjoy singing and it’s definitely taking off…Your MySpace page is crazy 4000 or 5000 plays today alone…Talk to us about your music girl…
SR: Sure…Uhm well you know as far a the music is concerned I really didn’t put it out there to the public until I put up my MySpace page because there was really no other way to do that…I decided to make my music like a cross between Missy Elliot and Gwen Stefani which has really not been done because Missy came in and broke all the rules and I just want to have music that people can dig…I’m not scared to experiment I don’t care what anyone tells me cause every time I walk into one of these record labels the really cool people that I meet there love my music even stuff that’s not on my MySpace…
S1: Listen homegirl very empowering your definitely out there in the forefront letting people know who you are, what you want and how you gonna get it…Any words of advice to the young ladies out there…
SR: My words of advice has always been you have to really stick to your guns, you know…Whatever route you wanna take just make sure your gonna stick to it…Don’t regret it if your gonna do it and if you make a mistake it’s okay…Focus on exactly what you want to do…Focus and make a decision…Always dream big I’m a dreamer but I dream in big pictures…
S1: That’s wassup….Ay yo Somaya it’s been a pleasure talking and kicking it with you…I wish you much success on behalf of everyone from Legacy Magazine thank you very much and good luck ma…This is S1 signing off!!!
